What is in each Macutec capsule
- Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): 500 mg
- Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate): 400 mg
- Lutein: 10 mg
- Zeaxanthin: 2 mg
- Zinc (from zinc oxide): 25 mg
- Copper: 2 mg
Macutec has no beta-carotene. The US National Eye Institute advises current and former smokers to choose the AREDS2 formula rather than the older formula with beta-carotene.
Who are AREDS2 eye vitamins for?
The Macular Disease Foundation Australia says AREDS2 supplements may benefit people with intermediate age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in one or both eyes, or late AMD in one eye only. It says they are not recommended if you do not have AMD. Ask your optometrist whether an AREDS2 vitamin suits your eyes.
